The pressures of being a teen are greater than ever before. Social media bombards developing brains with images of “perfection” while encouraging a culture where self-worth is built on the number of likes or comments a post, video or picture receives. COVID-19 was a shared trauma that impacted everyone, but especially changed the way that young minds view the safety of their world.
Increased expectations in school and sports adds pressures that teens struggle to overcome and teens may easily become overwhelmed with the heightened demands. And typical friendships pose confusion about identities, values and relationships. Your teen and I will work together to build self-confidence, understand their changing brain and body and grow in ways to regulate the self. I use a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and neurological psychoeducation to support teens with their unique needs.
